In an area stricken with poverty, it is a constant struggle for a family to provide the necessary food and shelter just to get by. When disaster strikes, such as a heavy rain, crops are washed away, stores are gone. An entire season can be lost in a day with no hope in sight. Mountain Top Ministries engages in humanitarian efforts in Haiti to help people following such natural disasters.
Mountain Top Ministries Development programs, healthcare, and children-focused ministries allow us to show God’s love to hurting people. Supplying local villagers with clothing and food after a hurricane or flood is an opportunity to give as Jesus Christ did. When we have an opportunity to meet a need for basic shelter and clothing it is only natural to give generously and continue to build our community wherever possible.
Program Successes
MTM built a road to the village. Today, villagers do not have to walk on small goat paths over mountainous terrain to get their produce to the market, but can ride a taxi (called a “tap-tap”). As they bring much larger loads at a time, their trips are more productive and profitable.
MTM provides clothing for the naked and food for the hungry. On a frequent basis, Mountain Top Ministries reaches out to communities which have been devastated by Caribbean hurricanes or floods.
MTM builds homes for those who have none. A mud hut with a thatch roof is easily destroyed in bad weather, and difficult to rebuild. MTM has built concrete homes for a number of villagers and continues the development of the community.
Solar Light fixtures provide light in the darkness so that families can read and do chores after the sun goes down at night.
